Grizzly Bear Creek Trail is a rugged, challenging hike located in a remote section of the Black Elk Wilderness in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Designed for experienced and adventure-seeking hikers, this trail features steep climbs, multiple downed trees that require climbing over or navigating around, and several small creek crossings along the route.
The trail connects with the Norbeck Trail and continues on to the Black Elk Trail, providing an optional route to Black Elk Peak (Harney Peak). Reaching the summit from this connection adds approximately three additional miles. Hikers can also create a longer loop by following the Norbeck and Centennial Trails back to the trailhead. Along the way, keep an eye out for wild raspberries and abundant wildlife, including sightings of mountain goats. Grizzly Bear Creek Trail is ideal for those looking to escape crowds and experience a more raw, backcountry side of the Black Hills.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
