The Big Hill Trail System near Spearfish, South Dakota is a scenic network of five loop hiking trails named after the historic “big hill” early prospectors struggled to cross on their way to the gold fields. These trails wind through pine, aspen, and birch forests, offering a peaceful Black Hills hiking experience. In winter, much of the area is groomed for cross-country skiing. The system includes Loop A, Loop B, Loop C, Loop D, and the Outer Loop, making it a versatile destination for year-round outdoor recreation.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
