Experience

The Centennial Trail – Rapid Creek to Brush Creek section is a scenic stretch of the 111-mile Centennial Trail in the central Black Hills, covering just over 5 miles one way. This route is ideal for hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers looking for a rewarding point-to-point adventure. The Rapid Creek Trailhead, located off Highway 385 near Pactola Lake outside Rapid City, is easy to access and includes restroom facilities.

The trail begins by winding alongside Rapid Creek, a popular fishing area, before transitioning into a sustained climb through forested terrain. After reaching higher ground, the trail descends toward the Brush Creek Trailhead, offering a satisfying finish. Because the total out-and-back distance exceeds 10 miles, many visitors choose to shuttle vehicles between trailheads for convenience.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
