Experience
The Centennial City Dams Loop is a scenic and rewarding loop trail starting from the Alkali Trailhead with ample parking. The route follows the Centennial Trail across the road, passing under I-90 and through an open meadow before entering shaded pine forest. Hikers and mountain bikers can travel the loop in either direction, though many find it easier to go clockwise for smoother navigation. The trail features gentle climbs managed by well-designed switchbacks, creating a fun, rolling singletrack experience. Along the way, you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Bear Butte, the city of Sturgis, and the surrounding Black Hills. At just under eight miles, the trail reaches the Centennial City Dams—a perfect spot to take a break, enjoy the sound of running water, and soak in the scenery before continuing the loop back to the trailhead.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
