Experience
This trail was created and maintained by the Northern Hills Recreation Association and trail Committee members. The trail winds from Lead to Deadwood along an old Homestake Mining Company railroad grade providing fantastic views of both Lead and Deadwood. It starts at the Dog Park in Lead and ends near the Deadwood Trailhead of the Mickelson Trail. The trail has a bit of a climb at each end and then evens out along the ridge. If you start at Deadwood, you will follow the Mickelson Trail for about 1/10th of a mile before you will see the start to the Homestake Trail on right. The trail is well-marked by either white diamonds or Homestake Trail signs. The entire trail runs along easements across private land. Please respect the land owners and stay on the trail.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
