The Lookout Point Centennial Loop Trail is a scenic five-mile loop located in Wind Cave National Park, combining the Lookout Point Trail with a section of the Centennial Trail. Hiking this loop counterclockwise offers a rewarding progression of landscapes, beginning in open prairie with wide views and frequent sightings of prairie dogs near their burrows. As the route curves around and joins the Centennial Trail, the terrain transitions into denser vegetation and forested areas, where the trail follows a creek for part of the hike.
This shaded section provides a cooler, more secluded feel but also requires awareness, as poison ivy can be present along the trail. Buffalo are often seen grazing near the creek and throughout the loop—visitors should always observe wildlife from a safe distance and never approach, as buffalo are dangerous. This loop is ideal for hikers looking for varied scenery, wildlife viewing, and a well-rounded Wind Cave National Park experience.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
