Experience

The Badger Clark Trail is a short, scenic loop located in Custer State Park, winding through a quiet forest of ponderosa pine with a small number of oak trees. The trail is mostly smooth and easy to follow, with just one short hill that adds a bit of gentle elevation change. Its manageable length and peaceful setting make it a great option for a relaxed hike or a quick nature escape.

Badger Clark Trail is named after Charles Badger Clark, South Dakota’s first poet laureate, and passes near the site of his former cabin known as The Badger Hole. Combining forest scenery with a touch of local history, this trail offers a calm and reflective hiking experience within Custer State Park.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
