Trail Itinerary
Stop 1: Elkhorn Ridge Travel Center
Fuel up your car and grab road snacks, drinks, sunscreen, or any last‑minute essentials before heading into Spearfish Canyon. It’s an easy, convenient first stop to set you up for the day.
Stop 2: The Vine Bakehouse & Coffee
Head into town for fresh‑baked pastries and a morning coffee. It’s a cozy way to start the day before you drive into the canyon.
Stop 3: Bridal Veil Falls
As you make your way up the canyon, pull over at this easy roadside waterfall. It’s a great photo opportunity, and you may spot the Spearfish Canyon mountain goats in this area. Give them plenty of space and enjoy the view.
Stop 4: Spearfish Falls Trail
Park at Latchstring and take the path on the left to the trail. Follow the switchbacks to the creek and continue to the falls, where benches offer a spot to rest.
Stop 5: Lunch at Latchstring Restaurant
After hiking back up, enjoy a relaxed lunch with homemade favorites. It’s a classic canyon dining stop and a great way to recharge.
Stop 6: Roughlock Falls
From Latchstring, walk across Highway 14 to access Roughlock Falls Trail, or drive directly to the falls if you prefer to save your legs. The area offers boardwalks, viewpoints, and beautiful creekside scenery.
Stop 7: Devils Bathtub Trail
On your way back down the canyon, stop for this local‑favorite hike. Expect creek crossings, swimming spots, and even a natural rock slide, a refreshing break on warm days.
Stop 8: The Clubhouse of Spearfish
Wrap up your day with food, drinks, and fun at The Clubhouse. Sports simulators, a laid‑back atmosphere, and family‑friendly entertainment make it an easy place to unwind after a full day in the canyon.
