Experience
The Cloud Peak Trail in Wyoming’s Bighorn National Forest is a challenging, high-reward hike suited for experienced adventurers seeking one of the region’s most iconic summits. Starting at the Tensleep Campground, the route begins on the Misty Moon Trail and gradually leads hikers past several alpine lakes before reaching Misty Moon Lake, a popular backcountry camping spot located about seven miles from the trailhead.
From there, the trail to the summit becomes steep and demanding, requiring significant boulder hopping and rock scrambling. Route-finding can be tricky, but rock cairns help guide the way. Reaching the summit of Cloud Peak delivers breathtaking panoramic views of the Bighorn Mountains. Due to frequent afternoon storms, an early start and early summit attempt are strongly recommended.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
