Experience
The 7th Cavalry Trail System is a popular Sturgis hiking trail system offering a climb that ranges from moderate to strenuous, depending on your access point. This scenic Black Hills trail features open grasslands, wooded sections, and a small stream, with panoramic views of Bear Butte, bird’s-eye overlooks of Fort Meade, BLM land, Black Hills National Cemetery, and the City of Sturgis. Wildlife and grazing cattle are common during summer months, so hikers should watch their footing. As the first trail system developed by the Black Hills Trails nonprofit in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, the 7th Cavalry Trail System represents over 1,200 volunteer hours dedicated to creating one of the region’s most rewarding hiking experiences.

Lovely shade, easy creek access for the kids. Parking fills fast by 10am.

Rock in sections; bring poles. Worth it for the canyon views.
