Canyons Trail

Canyons Trail is a moderate loop hike located in Jewel Cave National Monument, offering a scenic and immersive Black Hills hiking experience. Starting at the Jewel Cave Visitor Center, this well-defined trail winds through the rugged terrain of Lithograph Canyon, where hikers can enjoy dramatic canyon walls, open grasslands, and seasonal wildflowers.

Wildlife sightings are common, with deer frequently seen along the route. The Canyons Trail provides a quieter alternative to shorter walks in the monument while showcasing the area’s unique geology and natural beauty. Because portions of the trail are prone to washouts after heavy rainfall, it’s recommended to check current trail conditions with the visitor center before heading out.
